Las Catalinas offers about 15 kilometers of the very dramatic hiking trails. Signature routes include:
- Punta Guachipelines. This is ridgetop trail out an extremely dramatic peninsula with cliffs down to the ocean on three sides, and great views of there nearby Pajaro islands, which are important nesting sites for tioretas (frigate birds) and pelicans. Roundtrip time from Beach Town: 1 to 2 hours.
- Punta Penca. This trail hugs the coast around Punta Penca, offering some flatter ground, a dramatic park-like setting out at the tip of the peninsula, and a climb to a dramatic lookout atop a high cliff. Roundtrip time from Beach Town: 30 to 60 minutes.
- McHenry Peak Loop – This trail climbs steeply up to the central high peaks of Las Catalinas at an altitude of just over 200 meters. The trail is artfully carved in looping turns up and down the steep slopes. The views in all directions are just stunning. This trail requires some fitness! Round trip time from Beach Town, 1 to 2 hours.
- Mountain Bike / Hiking Trails – The hiking trails listed above are too steep for mountain biking, as they have steps and aim for Las Catalinas’s most dramatic viewpoints. In addition we have about 10 kilometers of superb trails that maintain more gradual gradients and are great for mountain biking, trail running, and hiking. These trails go deep into cool ravines and high into the hills.
